Beginner’s courses and workshops
Beginners’ courses and workshops provide fundamental instruction in insight meditation. Emphasis is placed on the practices of sitting and walking meditation and developing mindfulness in daily life. Explanation and discussion of the teachings central to insight meditation are part of each class. Participants will have the opportunity to attend a NYI daylong retreat that follows the course.
These courses and workshops are recommended for people at all levels of meditation practice. They are appropriate for beginners, as well as for experienced meditators who wish to maintain their “beginner’s mind.”
Beginners’ Workshops
These comprehensive three-hour workshops will provide fundamental instruction in insight meditation. Emphasis is placed on the practices of sitting and walking meditation and developing mindfulness in daily life.
All Workshops are 10am to 1pm.

Six-Week Beginners’ Courses
These courses provide fundamental instruction in insight meditation. Emphasis is placed on the practices of sitting and walking meditation and developing mindfulness in daily life. Explanation and discussion of the teachings central to insight meditation are part of each class. The course is appropriate for beginners as well as experienced meditators who wish to maintain their “beginner’s mind.”
Registration includes a gift certificate to one daylong retreat.

Integrated Orientation for Beginners
Every Tuesday evening, 7:00–9:00pm
As part of the Tuesday evening sit, beginners now have the opportunity for beginning meditation instruction, questions and discussion in the small room from 7-8pm. Attendees can then join the sit in the main room for a Dharma talk and discussion until 9pm.
