“When wisdom awakens within you, you will see Dharma wherever you look. Dharma is all there is.” --Ajahn Chah
Awakening is always the same. The Buddha gave the analogy that as the ocean has but one taste, the taste of salt, so the Dharma has one taste, that of freedom. While awakening as an absolute transcends time and place, its lived expression is shaped by the context we are in. The realization of awakening is also understood as both immediate and gradual. So what is awakening, its journey of integration, and its implications for our times? This retreat will explore these themes and will introduce practices that enable insight, authenticity, and compassionate response within our daily lives. It will include dharma talks, instruction, meditation, inquiry exercises, mantra practice, practices related to kuan yin bodhisattva, and chi kung.
Since 1992 Kittisaro and Thanissara have taught meditation retreats internationally. In 1994 they took up residency as guiding teachers at The Buddhist Centre in South Africa and went on to establish the Dharmagiri hermitage in the mountains on the border of Lesotho. They initiated and support Outreach Programs in KwaZulu Natal in response to the HIV/Aids pandemic. (http://www.dharmagiri.org – http://www.dharmagiri-outreach.org)
