Resting in Natural Awareness

10am–5pm

In this daylong retreat we will explore gently opening and relaxing our attention into the present moment. We will practice the skill of “being," rather than “doing,” not by blocking activity, but by discovering the point of balance within, where our innate attention comes to the fore, awake and bright. The wisdom-awareness that arises in this form of meditation can often light up or point out areas where clinging and desire have crept into our meditation practice. This method is not meant to be superior or inferior to more structured practices but is undertaken as an exploration. We will also indulge in directed attention exercises at different points during the day. Relaxed awareness tends to bring ease to body and mind, and is readily transferable to daily life situations where a strongly focused attention on a single object, such as breathing, may be difficult to sustain or even inappropriate.

Kate Lila Wheeler began meditating in 1977 and has gone through a variety of approaches and systematic trainings under Western and Asian teachers.
