Circle of Sustaining Members
“If you have a little, give a little;
if you have much, give much.
It is not fitting not to give at all.
Share your wealth, use it.
Tread the path of the Noble Ones.
One who eats alone eats not happily.”
– Jataka V.382.
Dear Friends:
New York Insight’s vision is to create a peaceful refuge in our busy urban environment where all feel welcome. Our Center is an open community which includes people from all faith traditions, cultures, races, and experience levels who want to begin or to deepen their meditation practice based on the teachings of the Buddha.
We believe in our community of members, our sangha, and know that without this community we could not have grown together over the past ten years. We currently have about 1600 individuals who actively participate in Center programs. At the same time, only 200 have become members. It is essential that we build on that number in order to sustain our community. It is for these reasons that I am writing, asking you to become a member of New York Insight for 2009.
Why should you become a member of New York Insight?
Becoming a member of New York Insight means:
• Belonging to a community of like-minded individuals
• Having a special place to develop and honor your practice
• Being committed to deepen your own contemplative inquiry
• Helping to provide scholarships for others
Why does New York Insight need its members?
From the Buddha’s point of view, sangha is the “whole” of spiritual life. New York Insight becomes reality only through building a safe, trusting and vibrant sense of community. To continue to sustain this community, we rely on a committed group of dedicated volunteers and on the generosity of our Circle of Sustaining Members.
We respectfully request that you take this opportunity to honor your practice and join us as a member of New York Insight. We look forward to seeing you at our retreats, courses, workshops and sitting groups.
With heartfelt gratitude for your practice and generosity,
Joseph Schmidt
Executive Director
