“A life filled with compassion and peace of mind
is something that can come completely alive for us, now.”
.”
     – Sharon Salzberg

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We are pleased to connect with you again to reflect on our journey as one community. It
is our mission to awaken together by practicing mindfulness and cultivating the transformative
qualities of mind and heart. We at New York Insight share a heartfelt wish for the well being
of the community and its members. Through our energetic and financial contributions, we have
built a safe, trusting and vibrant center that we hope to sustain in the years to come.

New York Insight Meditation Center relies on the generosity of the teachers, the volunteers
and the community. The community relies on the dharma teachings from our Teachers
as well as from some of the most amazing monastic and lay teachers in the West. As such,
the teachings, established by the Buddha over 2,500 years ago, will endure only through the
continued will and aspiration of the community.

As you know, these are difficult economic times for organizations such as ours. This year,
despite cutting expenses our projected budget shortfall is nearly $15,000.

To close the budget gap and keep our doors open in 2010 we depend on your generosity.
Supporting NYIMC through membership has never been more vital, especially because
registration fees provide only about half of the revenue needed to sustain our center.

Financial support through membership sustains and enables New York Insight to:
• keep registration fees low and encourage broad attendance at NYI events
• maintain the center and its staff (almost exclusively volunteers)
• expand outreach to broaden and diversify our community
• offer training and development to our practice leaders and teachers
• underwrite the Scholarship Fund, ensuring no one is ever turned away for lack of funds

The primary benefit of membership is profound and simple: the satisfaction of being an ardent
supporter of a community dedicated to awakening, loving kindness, compassion and peace.

New York Insight Meditation Center needs your support.

We hope you will consider becoming a member. The value of Annual membership begins at $25 when you consider the benefits of event passes and discounts (members receive a 15% discount on most NYI events). Please review the Memberships and Benefits listed below, reflect on the level of membership participation that is appropriate for you, and give what makes you feel joyful.

With gratitude for your practice and generosity,

Joseph Schmidt
Executive Director
