Overview

New York Insight is an urban center for the practice of mindful awareness, called Insight or Vipassana meditation. Located in Manhattan, NYI provides a quiet refuge where all are welcome to begin or deepen meditation based on the liberation teachings of the Buddha.

NYI PROGRAMS

NYI offers a full schedule of talks, sittings, courses, retreats and workshops aimed at developing the art of mindful living. Many programs are designed especially for beginners. NYI offers online as well as at-the-door registration.

NYI TEACHERS

come from around the world to offer guidance in meditation practice, grounded in the Buddhist spiritual traditions of Southeast Asia, that help develop wisdom and compassion.

NYI BEGAN

in 1997 when a group of like-minded individuals committed to realizing their vision of a center to help cultivate awareness and foster a contemplative life located right in the heart of one of the world’s busiest cities.

NYI IS OPEN

to everyone who is interested in studying meditation. We welcome all races, cultures, faith traditions, and experience levels.

NYI’s CENTER

a light-filled loft space located near Herald Square, has become the physical and spiritual home of the community since it opened in 2004. With a main meditation room and a classroom, the center provides a safe space for spiritual inquiry.

NYI IS SUSTAINED

by generous contributions from the community. The low fees charged for talks, courses, and retreats cover the primary costs of maintaining the center; the teachers are supported through donations, or dana, from their students. NYI is also nourished by donations from our Circle of Sustaining Members.  An extensive staff of dedicated volunteers assist in running the center and its programs.
