Now Online: Interdependence Day – The Buddha’s Teaching on Dependent Arising
with Elizabeth Mattis Namgyel
Saturday, May 30th, 2020 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET
The teachings on interdependence, often known as dependent arising (pratityasamutpada in Sanskrit), are essential to all the teaching and practice lineages of the Buddha. You might say that they lie at the heart of awakening. Not only do these teaching tell us something about our relationship to the world around us, they also help us understand who we are in the ever-arising context of the world in which we live.
In this time of home-sheltering and social distancing, what do these teachings tell us about the meaning of “true connection”? What is the difference between being alone and feeling isolated? What does it mean to be “independent”? How do we create grace within the nature of interdependent relationships?
Elizabeth will guide us through an exploration of these ideas, from within the context of the Buddha’s most essential and liberating teachings: dependent arising.
This Daylong retreat will include a combination of talks by the teacher with periods of silent meditation. Practitioners of all levels are welcome
