In these tumultuous times, mindfulness is an essential tool for remaining calm and alert. In the quest to find a path forward, however, that’s not enough. What’s needed is for mindfulness to be infused with an ethical dimension—an attitude of care. That includes a recognition that all human actions, large and small, can have an impact.
Before he took his last breath, the Buddha shared one key word as inspiration for his grieving disciples in their quest to find a path forward after his death. That word is appamada, which in Pali means heedfulness or care.
During this daylong retreat, we’ll explore how this concept of care energizes meditation practice, preventing it from becoming a static or habitual routine, and transforms it into a tool for clarity and active engagement with the world—even in the face of seemingly insurmountable uncertainty and difficulty.
Together we’ll explore the multi-faceted aspects of mindfulness that appamada brings to life. Practices will include formal meditation and mindful movement, as well as inter-relational practices and opportunities for self-reflection or journaling based on poetry prompts. Join us in sampling an approach to meditation and life that emphasizes the importance of seizing the moment and realizing the full potential of yourself and others.
Everyone is welcome, regardless of previous experience with meditation.
