In-Person: Awake in Urban Nature – Contemplating Art and Nature

Location: Noguchi Museum and Socrates Sculpture Park, Long Island City, NY
This event will kick off NYI’s “Awake in Urban Nature” series for 2025.
We begin at the Noguchi Museum, immersing ourselves in the indoor galleries and outdoor garden devoted to the work of this renowned sculptor and designer. In these serene spaces, we will explore the relationship between art and nature through Isamu Noguchi’s unique and harmonious balance of aesthetics and functionality.
After the museum, we will venture to the nearby Socrates Sculpture Park, a vibrant and picturesque waterfront exhibition space and public park, for walking and sitting meditation together.
Please note: Registration fee does not include admission to the Noguchi Museum ($16–general admission, $6–seniors/students). This event is limited to 25 participants.

Maho Kawachi
Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, Maho Kawachi first encountered meditation and Buddhism in downtown Manhattan in 2000. She became an avid practitioner in 2008 and has over a decade of experience, practice, training, and certification credentials including completion of the Interdependence Project Teachers Training, Mindful Meditation Teachers Certified Program, and Mindful Mentor Training. She has trained with and under many influential teachers, including Ethan Nichtern, Jack Kornfield, and Tara Brach. She is in the process of becoming a certified teacher for Awake in the Wild under Mark Coleman’s guidance and is looking forward to facilitating outdoor meditation.
