CLIMATE CRISIS: What can we do together? An NYI Community Meeting

Wednesday, May 1st, 2019 | 7:00pm – 9:00pm

In response to the urgency of the climate crisis, New York Insight invites all of our Dharma friends to come together to examine how we, as a community, can consciously confront and engage the challenges of this global emergency. In the words of beloved teacher Thanissara:

“We are in the midst of a Planetary Emergency. This is a watershed moment for humanity, where everything depends on how we respond. As we wake to our new reality, it’s incredibly impactful. We feel profound grief, fear, and outrage; a daily kaleidoscope of reactions and emotions. But we are not alone. Let us turn this pain to strength, clarity and focus so we can face this immense challenge together.”

Please join NYI president Tom Carling, teacher Sebene Selassie, and Extinction Rebellion leader Bill Beckler, for an evening of meditation, presentations, and discussion as we explore your ideas and consider how NYI can best support our individual and collective practices in the midst of this new reality.

At our recent Town Hall in February, a diverse coalition of community members expressed the desire to see NYI initiate bold steps in response to the climate crisis. This is the rollout: your opportunity to speak up and be heard. We want to gauge your interest in climate change-focused programing/sittings and climate activism at NYI with the intention to provide the needed resources and structures as we move forward.

With love for our beautiful planet, through deep reflection and direct action, let us work together to take courage, move through the fear, and respond consciously to this existential threat. Together we are powerful.

“If the Buddha were alive today,
I think he’d be an environmental activist.”
—Christina Feldman, March 2019
