POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE: Eco Sangha
Eco Sangha is currently on hold as of 10/4/2018. We will let you know when Eco Sangha resumes.
Wednesdays from 7:00pm – 9:00pm
Following from an expansive definition of the term “ecology,” the Eco Sangha endeavors to serve as a nexus for the engagement of New York Insight in initiatives aimed at advancing social, economic, and environmental justice.
Weekly sangha meetings include a period of sitting, reading from related texts with group discussion, and co-creating strategic external engagements in social justice advocacy and nonviolent direct action. The Eco Sangha occasionally welcomes guest speakers to address the group on the topic of Buddhist social activism.
Please join us, as we work to take our practice of boundless compassion for all beings off the cushion, and into the world!
“What I have been keen to add to the definition of Eco-Dharma is the argument that… ‘Eco’ in Eco-Dharma can not be just about environment or nature or what is defined as wilderness… (W)e can’t be environmental activists/advocates without paying attention to inter-dependence and intersectionality between movements.”
– Kritee, Zen teacher and founding board member of Rocky Mountain Ecodharma Retreat Center
Fee by donation: Suggested starting donation is $10 but whatever you offer is greatly appreciated and no one is ever turned away for lack of funds. All donations go to support NYI.
