Insecurity, Self-doubt, Vulnerability, and Other Unruly Dinner Guests
with Paul Fulton
Sunday, March 16th, 2025 | 10:00am – 1:00pm ET
In-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street, 12th Floor
There are two kinds of people: Those who experience feelings of self-doubt and insecurity, and those who pretend they don’t.
How are we to understand these anxious feelings when they show up or persist? Is it evidence of a disorder in need of correction? A shameful weakness to be hidden from ourselves and others? Or, per the Buddha’s teachings, an inevitable feature of human existence?
When we misperceive the nature of our insecurity, we are at risk of pursuing ineffective–even harmful–strategies to feel safe. Over the course of this half-day retreat, we’ll draw on Buddhist ideas and Western psychology to help us explore what contributes to our self-doubt, and learn what constitutes wise action. Together we’ll investigate the elusive nature of “acceptance.”
Join Buddhist teacher and psychologist Paul Fulton for a day of meditation, reflection, and a rich shared exploration and conversation about self-doubt and how we move toward a fresh understanding of these experiences.
