In-Person: Exploring the Power of Love – InsightOut LGBTQI Gathering
with Elaine Retholtz
Monday, March 27th, 2023 from 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET
Location: New York Zendo (Shobo-Ji Zendo) at 223 East 67th street, New York City
Come join us for meditation and discussion to meet and socialize with other LGBTQI practitioners.
New York Insight Teacher Elaine Retholtz will present a dharma talk titled Exploring the Power of Love based on the quote by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr:
“Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic.
Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is love correcting everything that stands against love.”
Our community is open to students of all Buddhist traditions, as well as those who are in the beginning stages of exploring their meditation practice and have an interest in the Dharma. All those who identify as LGBTQI are welcome.
We gather to form a multicultural community in which we can support each other in our practice with a commitment toward social change.
Fee by donation: Suggested starting donation is $15 but whatever you offer is greatly appreciated and no one is ever turned away for lack of funds.

NYI’s Covid Protocol for In-Person Indoors Programs:
We continue to strongly encourage all Sangha members to take advantage of vaccination against Covid and influenza, including booster shots.
All participants must register in advance before attending the program.
We ask that each Sangha member carefully and honestly assess their health prior to heading to class, and ask that anyone who is even mildly symptomatic (including sore throat, cough, sinus/nasal congestion, loss of smell, fever, or unexplained body ache or fatigue) stay home. Symptoms may precede a positive Covid test result by several days, or may indicate influenza or other infections that will not be detected by standard testing.
While we appreciate the hardship of missing an event that you may have made significant sacrifices to be able to attend, this is the single most important precaution you can take to protect both yourself and your fellow Sangha members.
All participants are strongly encouraged to wear masks during these classes.
Disclaimer:
Procedures adhere to current CDC, NY State, NYC, and New York Zendo Shobo-Ji guidelines.
Changes may be applied at any time, based on these third-party guidelines.
All in-person programs may become online programs if circumstances dictate.
For the health and safety of our staff, teachers, and community, please do not come onsite if you are feeling unwell.
If you have questions about your registration (cancellation policy, membership discount, email confirmation, etc.), please read our FAQs. If your question is not addressed in the FAQs, please email registration@nyimc.org.
If you have any questions, please contact registration@nyimc.org.
