As we begin a new year, we have the opportunity to begin again, and again. In this half day workshop, we will take the time to recalibrate our systems and move into greater alignment with ourselves and our natural world through meditation, mindful movement (drawn from qi gong, yoga, somatics), breathwork, and contemplative journaling, centered around the seasonal theme of winter and the elemental theme of water.

According to Wuxing (5-phase theory in Chinese medicine), the winter season, associated with the element of water, is a time to slow down, refocus our attention, and shift from outer to inner. It is a time to journey inside, listen deeply, and simply be with what is there.

All around us we see that leaves have fallen off the trees and the earth may appear barren. Yet underneath this bare exterior, there are dynamic and vitally transformative processes underway. This “invisible” activity is essential for the visible growth that will sprout forth in the spring. Similar to what we observe in the natural world, the winter offers us a precious time to connect with the deeper layers of our experience, our consciousness, our being – to tend to the vast depths of the ocean underlying the surface waves of our experience. We will explore practicing stillness in movement, movement in stillness, all the while listening deeply to what is heard in the silence. This half day retreat will support us in opening up to these depths within as we move into the new year.
