Online: There Is More to Death Than Dying
with Amy Selzer, Nancy Glimm & Jon Aaron
Saturday, January 15th, 2022 | 10:00am – 4:00pm ET
This is the first of four daylong retreats around living life fully as we explore death.
It will include both walking and sitting meditation, dharma talks, reflections shared in break-out rooms and the opportunity for all participants to explore the meaning of death through their practice, their lives and how they currently experience the five reflections.
The Five Reflections help us to accept life’s difficulties as we cultivate kindness to ourselves and others. They are-
1. I am of the nature to grow old; there is no way to escape growing old.
2. I am of the nature to have ill health; there is no way to escape having ill health.
3. I am of the nature to die; there is no way to escape death.
4. All that is dear to me and everyone I love are of the nature to change. There is no way to escape being separated from them.
5. My deeds are my closest companions. I am the beneficiary of my deeds. My deeds are the ground on which I stand.
These five reflections will guide us toward understanding impermanence and that all conditioned things arise and pass away.
All levels of experience are welcome to spend the day, immersed in the teachings and reflecting on impermanence.
This program is part of a series of four day-long retreats throughout 2022 exploring the various Buddhist-based practices related to death and dying and in the process living fully. While the series will pick-up themes and practices which were introduced in the prior Life and Death programs. These retreats are open to all who meditate and are interested in exploring these powerful practices. The other retreats are on the following dates:
